This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The 1.37 km wide cove on Boyd Strait indenting for 550 m the SE coast of Smith Island in the South Shetland Islands. Entered NE of Razdel Point and SW of Medovene Point. Situated 10.9 km SW of Cape Smith. Bulgarian mapping in 2009. Named after the historical settlement of Zapalnya in Southern Bulgaria.
