Island 4.5 mi S of Cape Evensen, lying in Auvert Bay off the W coast of Graham Land. Charted by the BGLE under Rymill, 1934-37. Named by the UK-APC in 1960 for Etienne L. Malus (1775-1812), French physicist who discovered the polarization of light by reflection, a fact subsequently used in the design of snow goggles.
